Our Early Years

Union Technical Services Ltd was formed in 2014 by our two directors Owen Coyle and Michael Sweeney. Having already worked within the Renovation and Building Industry, both were able to agree that there was a need to create a service which was all encompassing for Energy Efficiency Renovations. The company was created with the intention of becoming the UK’s Best “Whole House” Energy Efficiency Contractor and we are well on the way to achieving that!

Our Directors

The directors, Owen, Michael and Suzanne are still very hands on and are heavily involved in every project that is undertaken by the business.

Owen specialises in developing relationships with Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) – now having built strong relationships with 40+ RSLs and Local Authorities. He negotiates and manages budgets with major utility companies to ensure spend and reporting are in line with budgetary controls.

Michael is involved from the initial project set-up meetings with clients through to completion and handover. With expertise in funding solutions for social housing projects, he oversees all funding applications. Michael is key to identifying new innovative products and technologies and delivery methods which allows us to offer innovative solutions to our clients and customers.

Suzanne is responsible for the end to end support of staff, clients and customers throughout projects. She is our resident expert in our operational systems, including our customised CRM system, which she has developed to ensure it works for the smooth running of operations within our business.

Our Team

The success of the business has been down to the fantastic team which operates from our Head Office in Glasgow. The business has grown and diversified rapidly over the years. It still has its original start-up team as well as a number of Industry Specialists who have brought insight and knowledge from other industries; all who have helped make the business what it is and whom continue to grow, develop and adapt to an ever changing environment.

Our team have a great passion for helping others not only in the work they do, but the fundraising and charity events they organise and take part in. We have regular events where the staff come together to raise money through cake sales, sponsorship and donation. Most recently we have supported Marie Curie, local foodbanks, Children in Need and a whole lot more.

Our Commitment to Quality

Union Technical come highly recommended by the Manufacturers we work with and all of our services come with their own Independent Warranties and Guarantees. All installations are completed by our own in-house Install Teams, to ensure that the standard of work we carry out is the same as we would expect in our own homes. We appreciate that works in peoples homes can be inconvenient or stressful, which is why our staff take all measures to ensure there is as little disruption as possible and that homes are left neat and tidy.

All of our Installation Teams are fully trained and accredited in the relevant Industry Standards. We work to the PAS2030:19 Standard and are certified in all relevant Industry Accreditation Schemes.

We are committed to delivering a quality service and as well as gaining all industry accreditations, we also have ISO9001 in Quality Management, ISO14001 in Environmental Management and 45001 in Health and Safety Management. These accreditations ensure our full business is run in compliance with globally recognised quality standards.

Our Awards

Over the years, Union Technical have been delighted to be recognised and have consequently won several Regional and National Awards. Our most recent being the Scottish Large Project of the Year Award for our work with Highland Council. The project demonstrated our ability to reach some of the most vulnerable households in a remote part of Scotland. Providing a fully funded retrofit project including a full range of insulation measures, heating upgrades and the installation of renewable heating technologies to off-grid properties who, for some, was the first time their home had ever been heated apart from plug in room heaters.

Our Growth

We have gone from strength to strength. Initially only operating across the West Coast of Scotland, working on privately owned and rented properties, we have since gained the respect and confidence of a large number of Housing Associations and Local Authorities to provide a full retrofit service.

We now have operations across the whole of the UK, including some of the most remote areas in Scotland, such as the Highlands and Islands, partnering with a large number of Housing Associations and Local Authorities, delivering:

Funding Advice and Acquisition
Technical Surveys, Energy Performance Certificates and Inspections
Energy Efficiency Measure installation

We currently employ nearly 100 staff and have grown significantly over the last couple of years. So much so, that we have recently doubled the size of our office space. We plan to recruit further to increase the number of staff inline with the amount of work we have in our pipeline.

The Future

Union Technical have a strong vision for the future which includes continued diversification and sustainability in a growing and ever changing market place. However, whilst the company remains keen to grow we also want to ensure that we do not lose the personal touch. What is most important is that we maintain the values and standards which we set out to achieve. The business is and will always remain to be, a family run business that is interested in and takes care of it’s staff, customers and partners.
